Creatively Christmas! School Tour
It's that time of year again. After last year's hiatus, the popular Creatively Christmas! school tour is back for grades Pre-K through 2. Elfie the Elf has returned to Honolulu and is looking forward to spreading her love of art and Christmas. "I can't wait to see Hawaii's kids again," she says. "Christmas is so magical." Your students will tour art of the Nativity with our docents and then be treated to Elfie's holiday magic show. Tours are Monday through Friday from November 30 to December 18. The cost is $3 per student and tour request forms are now online at www.honoluluacademy.org/tourrequest. View a flyer here.
Screening of PBS Series Art:21The Academy Art Center presents two free public screenings from Season 5 of the award-winning PBS series Art:21-Art in the 21st Century. You are invited to the Art Center Community Room on Monday, October 26 at 6pm to view Episode 2: Transformation and on Monday, November 9 at 6pm to view Episode 3: Fantasy. Seating for these screenings is available on a first-come basis. Learn more about this event. You can also access the Art:21 Educators Guide for Season 5 here.
Spring 2010 School Tour RequestsYou can make your request for Spring 2010 tours starting December 7. On that day, please visit www.honoluluacademy.org/tourrequest to fill out and submit the electronic tour form for your class. Because the public schools are now on Furlough Fridays, we ask that private schools and charter schools make their requests for Fridays whenever possible. We will do our best to accommodate all groups, but we are limited in the number of tours we can have, so make your requests early.
Artist in Residence
Allison Uttley is nearing the end of her residency in the Museum Learning Center Gallery 31 Art Studio. She will be there on weekends until October 25, where you can find her inflating mylar balloon-like structures and soliciting help from visitors. Next up is Boz Schurr (pictured at right), who will be the Artist in Residence on weekends from November 7 to December 20. Schurr, a painter and filmmaker, will encourage visitor participation in her project of capturing the painting and thought processes through film. Learn more.

Share Your Curriculum & Student WorkPlease share your lessons, activities, and student works based on the Academy's collection. The Museum Learning Center will review all submissions and will put the selected ones on our online library of teacher-submitted materials, which we are currently developing. While the Academy does not offer financial compensation for submissions, we are happy to help teachers gain continuing education or re-licensing points based on these submissions. We will credit all teachers and students whose work is accepted. Submit your lessons.
